UN Environment Program Launches a Competition for Young Fashion Designers in Arab States

Riyadh – Fateen Obaid

The UN Environment Program (UNEP) in West Asia in collaboration with regional Goodwill Ambassador, Rami Kadi, and regional magazine, Jamalouki, are excited to announce the launch of the Designers for the Future Competition.

Targeted for young designers in all Arab States, this competition aims to highlight the ability to create innovatively while remaining environmentally friendly and embracing a circular mindset. The lucky winner will receive:

  • A feature in one of Jamalouki’s future issues, a photoshoot included to showcase the winner’s designs to Jamalouki’s 3 million+ worldwide users.
  • An invitation by UNEP West Asia to attend the United Nations Environment Assembly 5 with all expenses covered including accommodation, transportation and more.
  • An official UNEP certificate.
  • An internship at Rami Kadi Maison de Couture, working closely with the designer himself.
The Designers for the Future Competition is an opportunity for regional talents to showcase their work and their ability to produce innovatively and responsibly. Out of all applications, 10 finalists will be selected to transform leftover fabrics and materials provided by Rami Kadi Maison de Couture into a wearable garment. Additionally, these contestants will be given the opportunity to have a one-on-one meeting with Rami Kadi, where he will be giving the designers feedback and guidance on their works before the submission deadline.

The winner will be selected based on how creatively the participant has utilized the material provided, the garment’s practicality, and most importantly, how sustainable the creation is.

The deadline for entering the competition is 10 May, 2021. Designers must submit a portfolio or previous works, a brief 300-word introduction about themselves and their interest in this competition, and additional documents if needed.
