In Zibo City, Shandong Province in east China, archaeologists have uncovered a prehistoric site that dates back more than 4,000 years, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The “Gaonan Site,” which has an area of about 20,000 square meters, was discovered at a building site in Zhangdian District’s Fangzhen Township.

On February 20, a local archaeological crew started digging the site. There have already been discoveries of pottery artifacts.

An unearthed pottery cooking utensil has been identified as a typical tool of the Longshan Culture, a late Neolithic civilization that was found along the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, according to Fang Shuyu, an employee of the provincial institute of cultural relics and archaeology.

“We can determine that the site is a very tiny primary-level settlement from the Longshan Period based on the current excavation effort. The excavation has significant academic implications for the investigation of the fundamental grassroots settlement structure of the time “And Fang.–WAM
