Riyadh – Asdaf News:

In order to increase public awareness of environmental challenges such marine pollution, population growth, global warming, and sustainable development, the inaugural World Environment Day (WED) was declared in 1973.

Every year on June 5, WED promotes environmental conservation by raising awareness and inspiring action. It serves as the main United Nations environmental outreach day and is sponsored by a wide range of corporations, governments, and non-governmental organizations.

More than 143 nations participate in WED, and each year the WED programme chooses a topic; this year’s theme is #BeatPlasticPollution.

WED is led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and is celebrated by millions of people across the world.

This year WED 2023 is hosted by Côte d’Ivoire and supported by the Netherlands #BeatPlasticPollution and it is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters.
