
The Qatari squad excelled on the last day, taking home ten colored medals, including four gold, three silver, and three bronze.
Along with the silver medal the women’s 4x400m relay team won, runners Yaser Salem and Musab Adam each won silver in their respective races of 1500 and 5000 meters.
Regarding the bronze medals, they were won by Samar Al Mansoori in the heptathlon, the men’s 4x100m relay team, and Khalil Badawi in the hammer throw sport.
The Qatari team increased their total of colored medals to 28 and added 13 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze to take the top spot in the overall standings.
Former Qatari runner and Assistant Secretary-General of the Qatar Athletics Federation Talal Mansour spoke to QNA and said that the impressive performance in the West Asian Athletics Champions calls for optimism for the future of Asian athletics, which will produce some fine talents. He also noted that the many talents in the region will find their way to the international stage and compete globally.
Mansour emphasized the significance of taking technical advantage of West Asia’s rich sports history in order to achieve great things in the future. He noted that while training and camps are advantageous for athletes, competing in competitions improves their abilities and performance.–QNA
