The King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture Ithra, participates in the Sharjah International Book Fair for the first time from November 1–12, Ithra highlights the enormous and distinctive reservoir of cultural offerings that it makes available to enthusiastic readers locally, regionally, and worldwide.
“The Ithra booth at Sharjah International Book Fair presents an opportunity for visitors to register for the Ithra Digital Library,” said Tariq Khawaji, the Cultural Consultant at Ithra.” This digital resource is available to anyone anywhere in the world free of charge. It’s part of our vision to spread the love of reading and the pursuit of knowledge everywhere. So far we have more than 6000 members and growing fast.”
One of the biggest public libraries in the area and the first digitally integrated library in Saudi Arabia, the Ithra library is a four-story building that occupies more than 6,000 square metres and contains over 326,000 books in both Arabic and English. More than 34,000 eBooks and audiobooks in English and Arabic are available at Ithra’s Digital Library, along with over 7,000 newspapers and publications from 120 countries that are available in 60 languages. PressReader, a platform for reading publications and newspapers, and Libby, an app for eBooks and audiobooks, make the materials of the Ithra Digital Library easily accessible.
During its participation in Sharjah International Library Conference Ithra presents a session titled, “The library as a sustainable creative source, the Ithra Library as a model.”, In partnership with the American Library Association the session sheds light on how Ithra promotes sustainable development through inspiring workshops, performances, and events.
