The 2023 World Senior Weightlifting Championship opened in Riyadh, yesterday. The championship serves as a qualification event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Mohammed Al-Harbi, the president of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation, said during the ceremony that the wise leadership’s generous and unrestricted support, as well as the keen attention of the sports leadership, are responsible for the sports in the Kingdom experiencing a comprehensive revival in terms of hosting or participation.
The objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 for the sports industry were emphasised by Al-Harbi, who also urged sports federations to host significant international sporting events and activities.
The Saudi Weightlifting Federation and everyone else on the organizing committee were praised by the IWF President for their efforts in removing roadblocks and working nonstop all day to ensure the comfort of the sporting delegations.
He also expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the Kingdom for its substantial support of international sports, which helped Saudi Arabia become a strong player on the international scene.
