Saudi International Handicrafts Week Kicks off at Riyadh Front

“Saudi International Handicrafts Week” organized by the Heritage Commission were launched on Tuesday and will continue till June 12.

The event, which was sponsored by Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Heritage Commission Board of Directors, took place at Riyadh Front with the participation of local Arab and foreign experts and artisans, as well as Hamed bin Mohammad Fayez, Deputy Minister of Culture and Deputy Chairman of the Heritage Commission Board of Directors, and Jasser Al-Harbash, CEO of the Heritage Commission.

In his speech at the event, the Deputy Minister of Culture emphasized the significance of the Saudi International Handicrafts Week in showcasing original artwork and handicrafts, introducing the rich heritage of the Kingdom, and creating a platform to support craft abilities and creations.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that handicrafts may be seen as economic and cultural endeavours, a place where people can find work and make investments, and something that is vital to protecting cultural heritage and fostering national identity.

A spectacular musical performance, a documentary on historic crafts, and the tale of the handicrafts’ inheritance hundreds of years ago all took place at the opening ceremony.

On 18,000 square metres of land at Riyadh Front, the Saudi International Handicrafts Week is organized in a layout that draws inspiration from historic and conventional architectural styles. In 11 categories, including metal, textile, palm, leather, wooden, and ceramic handicrafts, crafts of binding and gilding, decorations and jewellery, and embroidered handicrafts, craftsmen can show and sell their creations.
