Saudi Arabia Wins Gold Medal at Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023

By taking home a gold medal in the athletics disciplines, the Saudi Special Olympics team kicked off their participation at the 16th Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023.

Thamer Ahmed of Saudi Arabia, who finished first in the 800m event on the athletics track in the Olympic Village in a time of 2 minutes and 30.08 seconds, took home the gold medal.

With a time of 2 minutes and 36.08 seconds, Maltese runner Jack Gatt took second place and the silver medal, while Spanish runner David Marti took third place and the bronze medal with a time of 2 minutes and 46.06 seconds.

Thamer celebrated being a part of the record-setting golden tournament by taking home the first Saudi medals at the competition.

He acknowledged that the competition from renowned players in his division made the race challenging.
The Saudi runner said that he is aiming to win additional medals in the forthcoming World Games contests since his desire does not end with this one.

Dr. Maha Al-Juffali, the president of the Saudi Special Olympics Board, visited with the athlete following his triumph and offered her congratulations on his amazing performance. Dr. Al-Juffali appreciated the athlete’s efforts and accomplishment of this international gold and expressed her satisfaction and pride in obtaining the first Saudi medal in the competition.
