Riyadh Bus Service 2nd Stage Kicks off

As part of the King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced the start of the second stage of the “riyadh bus” service on June 19, 2023. This stage will see the addition of 223 more buses serving the extensive neighbourhoods of Riyadh City, providing access to 500 bus stations and stops, covering 9 additional routes, including the extension of Line 11 dedicated bus lane service, as part of the overall 86 bus network routes. With the inclusion of Stage 2, the whole network expansion now includes 560 buses, 24 routes, and over 1100 bus stations and stops, and has seen over 2 million people travel on 180,000 trips.

As part of the five-stage launch plan, the second stage of the “riyadh bus” expansion covers 1120 of the total riyadh bus service’s 1900 miles. Subsequent stages will include more buses, stations, and routes.
The “riyadh bus” will assist ease traffic congestion and lessen air pollution caused by carbon dioxide emissions, in keeping with the city’s sustainability policy and motivated by the need to reduce pollution with an emphasis on improving quality of life.

The growth of the city depends heavily on the integration of a public transportation system, which will support logistics and transit requirements, strengthen the urban environment, and benefit the local economy. The project is a key component of the city’s economic and urban development with the goal of reducing pollution while also favourably affecting people’s quality of life and the city of Riyadh embracing the Quality-of-Life programme.
The “riyadh bus” stage 2 campaign contains significant announcements showcasing the “riyadh bus” app updates and ticket offering, with a theme that builds on “more routes, stops, and buses”.

The enhanced functions on the app include ‘choose your journey’ ease of selection, payment processes, and live bus tracking; that will further ease the usage of the app for the passengers helping in faster ticket purchase and seeing their routes live to select the best trip options. More tickets options have also been added as passengers can select from purchasing a 3-day, 7 day, and 30 day passes.
