The Ministry of Culture, in strategic partnership with the Heritage Commission, is proud to announce the launch of the Handicrafts Grant 2025. This initiative is a cornerstone of the “Year of Handicrafts 2025,” dedicated to championing the rich cultural legacy and significant contributions of handicrafts across the Kingdom.
The grant program is designed to stimulate specialized research that delves into the cultural, social, economic, and intellectual significance of handicrafts throughout Saudi Arabian history. Researchers are invited to submit proposals that explore six key thematic areas:
- History of Handicrafts: Tracing the evolution and traditions of Saudi craftsmanship.
- Promoting Handicrafts: Strategies and initiatives for wider recognition and appreciation.
- Economic Impact and Competitiveness: Analyzing the financial contributions and market potential of the sector.
- Technology and Its Uses: Investigating the integration of modern tools and techniques with traditional crafts.
- Society and Handicrafts: Understanding the role of handicrafts in community life and identity.
- Concepts and Cultural Significance of Handicrafts: Exploring the deeper meanings and symbolic value embedded in these art forms.
Applications for the Handicrafts Grant are open from July 14, 2025, to September 1, 2025. Eligibility requires applicants to hold a master’s or doctoral degree, or demonstrate a robust research track record. Submissions must be exclusive to this grant (unless declined) and successful applicants will be committed to producing a publishable academic paper.
This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to supporting cognitive research, enhancing local knowledge for the sustainable development of handicrafts, and fostering dynamic communication among experts in the field.
