KAUST receives Palm Dates Excellence Award

Riyadh – :

The optometry lab, which is affiliated with King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST), was awarded the Palm Dates Technological and Innovation Excellence prize 2022, which was presented by the National Centre for Palms and Dates during the 3rd International Palm Dates Conference and Exhibition.

According to a press release, the research honored today is an optic-fiber-operated remote audio device that contributes to the early discovery of the red palm weevil, a source of a long-lived problem affecting palm trees in the Middle East, South East Asia, Europe, and other parts of the world.

According to the report, the research is in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Saudi Arabia is the world’s second largest producer of palm trees, producing approximately one million tons of dates per year, according to the report, which also stated that nearly eight million US dollars are spent each year to combat the spread of the palm tree weevil in the Middle East.
