In March, South Korea’s Automotive Exports a Record High

According to Xinhua, South Korea’s auto exports reached a record high last month as a result of strong demand for environmentally friendly vehicles.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy, car shipment increased 64.1 percent from a year earlier to $6.52 billion in March. Since August of last year, it represented the biggest monthly auto shipment in the nation and the eighth month in a row of growth.

262,341 vehicles were shipped in March, a 48.0 percent increase from the same month previous year.
Eco-friendly car exports increased by 94.7 percent to $2.27 billion, and the number of such vehicles exported increased by 79.5 percent to 71,781. Last month, highs were reached for both metrics.

Due to the lessened supply disruption of semiconductors used to create cars, the number of vehicles produced in local factories increased 35.6 percent from a year earlier to 409,806 in March, surpassing 400,000 for the first time in six years.
165,851 cars, both domestically produced and imported, were sold in South Korea in March, a 19.6% increase from the same month last year.
