DEWA talks on collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure

Dubai – Asdaf News:

At the head office of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO, greeted Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI).

This is one of several reciprocal trips to strengthen collaboration between UAE government agencies. The meeting’s secondary goal was to share top international lessons learned and best practices from DEWA.
Al Tayer greeted Al Olama and emphasized the value of strengthening their mutual cooperation and integration in the water and clean energy sectors. This supports the directives of the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the UAE’s global leadership in all areas.

Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s important initiatives at the meeting in order to realize the goal of the wise leadership in delivering cutting-edge infrastructure in accordance with the highest international standards. The present capacity of DEWA is 490 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD) of desalinated water and 14,617 megawatts (MW) of power. The transmission and distribution networks’ capacity is something that DEWA is aiming to improve.

Al Tayer also covered DEWA’s initiatives to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to produce all of Dubai’s electricity from clean sources by the year 2050. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a targeted capacity of 5,000MW by 2030, is one of the crucial initiatives DEWA is pursuing to attain this aim. 2,127MW, or around 14.6% of Dubai’s overall power production capacity, is the solar park’s current output capacity.

Al Olama applauded DEWA’s efforts in advancing the water and energy sectors and highlighted its crucial role in scaling up the country’s renewables and clean energy capacity, as well as developing innovative ways to enhance water and energy efficiency, which contributed to enhancing the UAE’s global leadership in these areas.

“The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is keen to join forces with all federal and local government entities to achieve the UAE’s aspirations. Such meetings are the key to supporting our energy objectives for the next 50 years, stepping up environmental sustainability and natural resource preservation efforts, driving climate action, and strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading country in environmental protection and carbon footprint reduction,” Al Olama said.

“The ministry works relentlessly to develop projects and initiatives that help enhance the sustainability of the energy sector, in line with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, which represents a national drive to decarbonise our sectors and become climate neutral by 2050,” Al Olama added.
