Creativity, Designs, Exhibitions and Challenges at Ithra’s “Tanween” 6th Edition

Under the theme “Scale”, The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, Ithra, has opened its 6th edition of “Tanween”, the annual creativity conference, on Wednesday.

This year’s edition invites creatives, professionals and the public to explore its dynamic impact on design and its role in shaping the environment, where we uncover innovative solutions by understanding the diverse methods and perspectives of focusing on scale in various design fields.

“Tanween” runs from November 1- 4, 2023 and features panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, mega challenge about refugees and “A Day with an Expert”.

“Tanween” hosts architects, experts and professionals who flew from around the world to be part of the leading creativity conference.

From the moment you land to the airport, you see signs of “Tanween” that raises the interest of everyone even those who are arriving for family visits or other businesses.

Architect and worldwide award winner, Waleed Shalaan, facilitated panel discussions and gave a welcome speech during the opening ceremony.

The conference also included Designing Solutions for Refugees Challenge: the largest creative challenge aimed at finding sustainable solutions to the global refugee crisis, and the “A Day with an Expert” program: an opportunity to spend a day with a famous expert in his field to learn closely how the specialist works and the reasons for his success.

Dr. Sumayah Sulaiman Al-Solaiman CEO, Architecture and Design Commission delivered a valuable speech titled “Connecting the Dots” where she explained the aim behind this program and the role of the commission.

Miznah Al-Zamil, head of innovation and creativity at Ithra, addressed the audience that each year “Tanween” takes a fresh approach to examine the idea of creativity from a new standpoint. Additionally, “Tanween” offers four exhibitions, eight workshops, panel discussions, and workshops this year.

She added that this year’s new educational initiative, “A Day with an Expert,” was presented.

Main activities, sessions and panels of the conference are held in Ithra main hall, where attendees can see carefully chosen designs that showcase innovative concepts and solutions developed by architecture, fashion, and interior design students from the Kingdom and beyond.

“Tanween” in numbers:

Since its inauguration in 2018, “Tanween” has hosted 75,000 programs participants, 125 international and local speakers, 30 exhibitions, 170,000 visitors and 110 workshops and masterclasses.
