Abu Dhabi –  Asdaf News:

The ban on single-use plastic bags, which went into effect on June 1, 2022, has been effective in preventing the release of more than 172 million bags into the environment, according to the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).

To lessen Abu Dhabi’s reliance on single-use plastic products and to promote sustainability and recycling, EAD unveiled a comprehensive single-use plastic policy in 2020.

Popular retail stores joined the effort and have seen a considerable drop in the use of plastic bags of 90 to 95 percent. Only five reusable bags are now being used by customers for every 100 bags that were previously utilized at the cash registers.

Launching the public-facing communication campaign Mission to Zero was a crucial move that significantly added to the success of the single-use plastic bag ban. The visionary goal of zero waste, zero carbon emissions, zero impact on biodiversity, and zero consumption of single-use plastics was the focus of this ambitious campaign.
