Riyadh – Asdaf News:
According to Xinhua News Agency, Chinese researchers from Peking University have discovered a potential new drug that could increase the effectiveness of treating diabetes.
Due to its capacity to degrade the host’s glucagon and disrupt glucose homeostasis, bacteroides spp. microbial dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) from the gut microbiota is thought to be an essential therapeutic target for treating type 2 diabetes.
Sitagliptin, a medication used to treat diabetes, is less clinically effective when the host’s body has enhanced peptidase because Sitagliptin is unable to effectively block DPP4 activity.
The study concludes that the discovery is likely to have a significant impact on our understanding of diabetes and the effectiveness of medications used to treat it.
