2nd “ICT and Space Sustainability in Saudi Arabia” Report Published by CST

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has published the second edition of the “ICT and Space Sustainability in Saudi Arabia” report in cooperation with The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The report came as part of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 Vision, which includes sustainability as one of its pillars for advancing the Kingdom’s future.

The report emphasized the crucial role that ICT, space, and digital infrastructure sectors play in supporting other industries. The paper highlights CST’s efforts to create a sustainable digital economy and collaborative digital regulation.

The report represents CST’s efforts to close the digital gap, offer ICT services in rural regions, boost reliance on renewable energy sources, and increase recycling rates by embracing the (C.I.R.C.L.E.) roadmap. Additionally, the report covered initiatives to enable smart cities and creative solutions, encourage R&D and investment in emerging technologies, and diversify job prospects.

The report highlighted the key developments in digital sustainability for 2022, including the introduction of the Emerging Technologies Sandbox, the launch of the “Recycle Your Device” initiative to recycle e-waste, the expansion of women’s participation in the ICT sector, and investments in the space sector.

12 success examples from more than 34 entities that used digital solutions to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were featured in the report.
